Tameside is set to sparkle this festive season with a programme of events across the borough that started with the spectacular Northern Lights Winter Parade in Stalybridge last weekend and what a magnificent turnout it was in Stalybridge it was – there must have been thousands on the streets. Taking part in the parade is one of the highlights of my year and marks the start of my favourite part of the year – Christmas.

A massive thank you to Tameside Council Cultural Services, Global Grooves, Cabasa Carnival Arts and No Eyed Theatre, and of course – Santa – for all their work putting it on. I’m glad we had better weather than the night before.. Christmas has begun.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Stalybridge Street Fest ran alongside the parade, offering delicious seasonal food, drinks, and entertainment. Earlier in the day, the Artisan Markets opened in Stalybridge Civic Hall, and were perfect for picking up unique gifts and festive treats.

The celebrations don’t stop here. Over the following weeks, towns across Tameside will host their own Christmas light switch-ons and family entertainment including Hyde on 29 November, and Mossley and Hattersley on 5 December, with more events continuing into December. Tameside Council have also announced that all Christmas events will include free parking on council car parks.
