Twenty years ago the last Labour Government began then regeneration of Hattersley, putting millions of pounds of investment into a partnership with Manchester and Tameside Councils to refurbish existing homes and develop new ones. It’s something very close to my heart – when we were first married Claire and I lived in one of the new houses on Broadbottom Road.

This week, I am delighted that the current Labour Government are continuing this work. Hattersley has secured £20m of investment over the next 10 years, which will be administered by a neighbourhood board of local people. There will be considerable flexibility as to what the money can be spent on, but it can include improving local facilities and public spaces, supporting sports clubs, community groups and youth services, backing small businesses or making sure people are safe and secure – whatever the community decides.

I have also received confirmation that Tameside is also receiving an additional £1.5 million of the Pride in Place Impact Fund over the next 2 years to support the development of shared spaces, revitalise local high streets and improve public spaces across the Borough.

This is great news for Hattersley and great news for Tameside. The real question now is: how should this money be spent to make the biggest impact for you, your family, and your neighbours?
