It is hard to believe that thirteen years have passed since the tragic loss of PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes, who were killed in the line of duty while protecting our community. Their sacrifice remains one of the most heartbreaking moments in our recent history, and this week we paused to remember them.
Fiona and Nicola embodied the very best of public service and their memory lives on not only in the hearts of their loved ones and colleagues, but also in the community they served so bravely. At Mottram Church, a plaque bears the words: “Greater love has no-one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” It is a powerful reminder of the selflessness they showed and the legacy they leave behind.
To their families, friends, and fellow officers, we send our love and solidarity. We will never forget Fiona and Nicola.
