Labour campaigned as a pro-business party, and we are governing as a pro-business party. We’ve seen that last week with the Prime Minister’s hugely successful visit to the US – laying the groundwork for a potential free trade deal that could deliver some big wins for both our economies.

Closer to home, we’ve also seen two big multinationals casting a resounding vote of confidence in the UK economy. We’ve seen DHL investing £230m into a new e-commerce hub in Coventry, set to process over a million parcels a day. Up in the North West, the US tech giant Kyndryl has confirmed that a new technology hub is coming to Liverpool. This will create a 1,000 software engineering and AI-related jobs over the next three years. These are good, well-paid jobs – the jobs of the future. And thanks to this Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, we’re going to see a lot more of them being created here in Britain over the coming years.

This Government is delivering on its pledge to make the UK one of the best places to invest and do business. But don’t just take my word for it. This week, the Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank told us that business confidence is surging. Economic optimism is up. Confidence is up. And so is the willingness of British businesses to hire new staff.

When the Chancellor promised that this Government would go further and faster in driving growth, she meant it. And this week we’ve seen exactly what that growth looks like in new investment, new jobs, new markets in which British businesses can sell its world-leading products and services.

There is still more to do but the direction is clear. In fact, the IMF and OECD predict that Britain will be Europe’s fastest growing G7 economy in the coming years. I’m excited about what that means for our country – better public services, improved living standards, and increased prosperity. That’s the change the British people voted for. That’s what we’re delivering.
