It’s time to turn the page. I was extremely moved and proud to join business leaders, workers and supporters from across the country to launch Labour’s manifesto in Manchester yesterday. The launch showed Labour at its very best; professional enough to capably lead the changes Britain needs and ambitiously rebuild our economy; impassioned enough to use power for good to transform the lives of struggling ordinary Britons. If you missed it, I would recommend pouring a brew and watching it back, including the compelling contributions from the introductory speakers. I’m especially proud of the sections on industrial strategy, and making work pay. You can read about this, and all our plans, here: https://labour.org.uk/change/
Page ten of the Tory manifesto appears to be directly lifted from Labour’s Automotive Plan. “The UK’s automotive sector is a jewel in our manufacturing crown”, I published last October. “The UK car industry is the jewel in our manufacturing crown”, the Tories pinched verbatim this week, in a page which resonates suspiciously of Labour’s plans. Sadly, I don’t think British car makers would agree that the current government have treated them as precious, creating a chaotic and ever-changing environment that has actively inhibited growth and risked jobs. Leaders and workers alike in our factories know that actions speak louder than (pilfered) words.
