However, you are spending the festive period, from the bottom of my heart, Merry Christmas, one and all. My particular thanks and thoughts go to all our key workers, from NHS and emergency services staff, to care workers, retail workers, transport workers and postal workers, as well as all of those volunteering in services to support the vulnerable this Christmas. We truly appreciate all you give up to be there for your communities and to keep the country going come what may.

The good news, of course, is that the vaccine rollout continues to go smoothly currently, and to bring us all great cheer. Thank you to the relatives of 97-year-old Donald Furness from Dukinfield and Mary Macdonald from Hyde for sending me photos of their happy vaccination days. Mary’s daughter Kirsty said “Today, I took mum to the Hyde Leisure Centre drive through vaccination centre and she very gratefully received her first dose of the Pfizer Covid jab.  She’s feeling absolutely fine after having it. We have to say how impeccably ran the centre is.  All the staff were so friendly and helpful, and I have to say we were quite emotional as we waved goodbye to them all after her 15 mins was up.  They’re working so hard, outside to deliver the vaccine to our most vulnerable and they are just truly amazing.” Heart-warming to hear – thank you for sharing, Kirsty. Well done to everyone involved. Again, don’t contact the NHS for your vaccine appointment – they will contact you when it’s your turn.
