I have today exposed -to my disappointment- that bereaved families of low paid NHS and social care workers who lost their lives to Covid-19 will be ineligible for universal credit, housing benefit or pension credit if they accept the £60k lump sum. Comparable compensation schemes are exempt from the usual capital limits rules for benefits, but not the NHS one, our investigation has revealed. These families have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation going through an unprecedented pandemic. The Government must offer them our full support, not give with one hand and take away with the other
