I had a great few days at party conference, talking to members and engaging with businesses about Labour’s plans in government as part of my front bench role. I introduced Jeremy at the traditional annual conference service for Christians on the Left, where we spoke about ways to improve the way we talk to, listen, and understand each other. Monday is always an important day for the Shadow Treasury Team with the Shadow Chancellor’s speech, so I started early (and finished late!) on BBC News, Sky News and CNBC talking about our announcement on funding free personal care for over-65s.

We also wanted to spend some time talking about climate and the finance sector as an urgent priority, which was a theme we picked earlier this year. I’m pleased to say a third of all fringes this year were on climate. I spoke with Bloomberg, the CBI, New Economics Foundation and John McDonnell to an audience about how important it is for the City to invest money away from fossil fuels and into new green technology. I also spoke at an event with SERA and Christians and the Left on our global role in delivering economic justice and tackling climate change, as well as a Coop Party event about different models of business ownership to transform our economy. It was great to be present for an ambitious Leader’s speech, delivered boldly a day earlier than planned, after Parliament was recalled. Overall it was a great and productive few days seeing members and I’m excited to take back the ideas we talked about to the rest of the team.
