Urban development makes a splash in Stalybridge

Completion of LonglandsMP Jonathan Reynolds has celebrated the completion of a multi-million pound development that has breathed new life into a run-down corner of Stalybridge.

Longlands is a mixed use scheme which brings together 103 homes and 10,000 sq ft of workspace, which has been developed by award winning regeneration company Urban Splash.

And on Friday Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds joined Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE for a tour of the completed project.

As well as the original part of the scheme - the 19th Century Longlands textile Mill, which was restored by Urban Splash in late 2008 – Mr Reynolds was shown adjoining Pattern House and the landscaped gardens.

Commenting on the project, Mr Reynolds said:"It is fantastic to see progress like this in Stalybridge. Not only has this scheme made a visual impact in the local area, but it has created quality and affordable homes for people in the local area."

And Mr Bloxham said: "Longlands is a fantastic scheme which has helped change a rundown area of land into somewhere which is now home to a great mix of people.

"It’s a great example of using good design to make the most of an existing structure like Longlands Mill, but fusing it with contemporary and complementary architecture like Pattern House.

"Our next focus is finalising deals on commercial space at the scheme and we look forward to announcing details of these soon."

At Longlands, Urban Splash has maintained a commitment to creating a number of different ways to live at the scheme. There is an allocation of affordable homes in the form of a shared ownership scheme, which has been facilitated in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency.

Manchester-based Urban Splash has delivered over 60 mixed-use schemes including residential property of all tenures, commercial office, retail and a hotel. Other projects have included Fort Dunlop in Birmingham, Chimney Pot Park in Salford, Castlefield and New Islington in Manchester, and The Midland Hotel in Morecambe.
