Stalybridge restaurant 'highly commended' in national awards

Bowerfold SpiceA RESTAURANT in Stalybridge has been highly commended in a national competition, after being nominated by local MP Jonathan Reynolds.

Bowerfold Spice, next to Stalybridge Celtic Football Club, is a popular restaurant that serves up a vast menu of curries to hundreds of diners every week.

The restaurant is a favourite of MP Jonathan, who regularly pops in for a meal or to pick up a take-away.

And earlier this year he nominated it for the Tiffin Cup - which aims to find the best south Asian restaurant in the country.

This year the competition was won by a restaurant in Swindon. But Bowerfold Spice was ‘highly commended' by the judges.

And on Friday Jonathan Reynolds visited the restaurant to present manager Sarwar Ali with a certificate and a specially inscribed set of chefs' whites.

"Bowerfold Spice has been one of my favourite restaurants for some time," said Jonathan. "So I was really proud to nominate them for this competition.

"I have been coming here for years. And I know that every time I visit I am guaranteed great food and a warm welcome.

"I am obviously disappointed that Bowerfold Spice didn't win the national title. But being ‘highly commended' in such a prestigious competition is still a significant achievement.

"I am really pleased to be able to present the restaurant with their prize and to share in their success."

The competition to find the best south Asian restaurant in the country is run every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs.

Every MP can nominate just one restaurant from their constituency.

And then every nominated restaurant is visited by mystery diners, who judge the restaurants on criteria that include food, ambience, location, service and décor.
