'Roving Reynolds' tours Stalybridge and Hyde to listen to the concerns of residents

Roving ReynoldsMP Jonathan Reynolds has been ‘roving' around the Stalybridge and Hyde constituency - after inviting more than 7000 residents to tell him what they think.

Like most MPs Jonathan Reynolds already holds weekly surgeries throughout the year where residents can raise concerns, seek advice or ask for help.

But over the summer ‘Roving Reynolds' has made it even easier for residents to have their say.

That's because over the past two weeks as part of ‘Roving Reynolds,' Jonathan has spent every morning and every afternoon in a different area of the constituency.

He has written to more than 7000 residents to let them know exactly when he would be in their area.

And then he has responded to every request from a resident asking him to call in, either to discuss an issue or take on a problem.

Mr Reynolds says ‘Roving Reynolds' has been so successful that he intends to repeat it at other times of the year.

And by the end of the year he hopes to have written to many more homes in the constituency, offering residents the chance to meet with him face to face.

He said: "Talking to residents about their problems and their concerns for the area is one of the most important roles of an MP.  So I am always determined to be as accessible to residents as possible.

"Of course I try and hold regular surgeries around the constituency - so as many people can attend as possible. But even then I know it's not always easy for everyone to make it.

"So the difference with Roving Reynolds is that instead of residents having to come and see me - I go to them.

"I write to them to let them know when I'll be visiting the streets around their own home. And then, if they let me know they have something they want to discuss or a problem they want to raise, I go and knock on their door.

"'Roving Reynolds' was a bit of an experiment, but it has worked really well. We have already written to residents at 7000 homes over the summer.

"And within the next 12 months I hope that we will have offered a ‘Roving Reynolds' visit to many more residents in the constituency."
