Recruitment Centre offers MP insight into life in the Army

Visit to Army Recruitment CentreMP Jonathan Reynolds has visited the Army Recruitment Centre, in Manchester, to hear about the opportunities offered by a career in the armed forces.

The Stalybridge and Hyde MP is taking part in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, which is designed to offer Parliamentarians an insight into life in the armed forces.

And it was as part of the Scheme that he visited the Recruitment Centre, where he heard about the opportunities available to recruits and talked to young people who were considering joining up.

"Deciding whether or not to join the armed forces is a big decision," said Mr Reynolds. "And Recruitment Centres like this are a vital resource for anyone who is thinking of joining up.

"The Recruitment Centre, in Manchester, offers prospective recruits the vital opportunity to talk to serving officers about life in the armed forces.

"And it gives them access to all the information they need in order to help them make the decision that's right for them.

"There are a significant number of people from Stalybridge and Hyde who choose to serve in the armed forces.

"And in making this commitment - which can see them serve in some of the most troubled parts of the world - I think it essential that they can access a resource like this."

During his visit Mr Reynolds heard about the many diverse roles within the Army, as there are in the other armed forces.

And he was told about the range of opportunities and experiences that are available, including the chance to learn a trade, which enables recruits to pursue a civilian career when their time in the armed forces is complete.
