Talented Peter Aitchison and Christine Ormsby have launched a new gallery in Stalybridge to showcase the work of local artists – as well as helping to develop the next generation.
Painter Christine and photographer Peter have set up Gallery 23 in premises in Melbourne Street hat had been empty for some time. They already have work on display by eight different artists. And as well as selling art in the gallery they are running regular painting and photography classes, to help beginners and amateurs to develop their skills.
The gallery opens to the public on November 15 – but earlier this week Stalybridge and Hyde Jonathan Reynolds was given a sneak preview.
Following his visit to the gallery, he said: “There are clearly a wealth of artists within the local area and Gallery 23 provides them with another valuable outlet to showcase and to sell their work.
“There have been some concerns about the number of empty shops in Stalybridge for some time. The opening of the gallery is yet another sign that businesses are increasingly looking to open up in Stalybridge - and it is another welcome addition to the high street.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the gallery – and was delighted to be able to take the opportunity to wish them every success for the future.”
Gallery 23, at 23 Melbourne Street, Stalybridge, officially opens on November 15. Further information can be found at www.gallery23.co.uk
