MARKET traders from Hyde Market joined Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds on Friday 10th May to highlight ‘Love your local Market’ fortnight which runs for two weeks from 15th May 2013.
Love your local Market is a national initiative which last year helped provided more than 2000 pitches for new traders across the country.
This year, Tameside Council, in conjunction with the National Market Traders Federation will be offering up to 20 free pitches on Ashton and Hyde markets to budding entrepreneurs for them to try their hand at running a market stall.
Mr Reynolds said, ‘Love your local Market fortnight is a great way to promote the vibrancy which markets can bring to a town centre. In Hyde, we now have a new civic square which offers the potential for public events, entertainment and exhibitions – all of which will help bring visitors to the town, allowing them to sample both the indoor and outdoor market. And in Stalybridge, with the help of the Town Team, the farmers market has gone from strength to strength, with traders coming from far and wide to sell their goods on the market. I am therefore delighted that Tameside Council is working closely with the National Market Traders Fortnight to promote Love your local Market and to provide an opportunity for people to try their hand at becoming a market trader’
In recent months both the Stalybridge and Hyde Town Teams – of which Mr Reynolds is a member - have been at the forefront of a drive to breathe new life into our town centres.
The Team brings together residents, traders, church leaders, councillors and officials, all working together to make Stalybridge and Hyde a better place for people to live, to work and to shop.
