MP Jonathan Reynolds is joining traders, shoppers, community leaders and schoolchildren to take part in a new film . . . where the star of the show will be Stalybridge town centre.
The newly formed Stalybridge Town Team is currently putting together a bid to Government for funding of up to £100,000 to trial a number of ideas outlined by shopping guru Mary Portas.
And to accompany the bid – which must be submitted by March 30 – they are putting together a short video.
This week film-makers will be on the streets of Stalybridge talking to traders, shoppers and community leaders about the way they currently feel about the town centre – and their hopes for the future.
And today (Monday 18 March) the Stalybridge and Hyde MP was the first to record his support for the town on camera.
Mr Reynolds hopes the video will ensure those judging the bid get a real feel for the strengths of the town and the support there is for the bid.
Mr Reynolds said: "There will be hundreds of high streets nationwide bidding to become one of 12 towns chosen to pilot some of the ideas in the Portas Report – so we want to make sure Stalybridge has the best chance.
"I hope the video will show the energy behind the bid, as well as the strength of support it has from the whole Stalybridge community.
"I am really encouraged by the way traders and community groups are already working together on the Town Team.
"They may be working to a tight deadline, but they are developing a number of fabulous ideas that will be at the heart of the bid.
"I believe these plans will make it more attractive, by day and by night – and I am proud to support the bid."
All bids – which must include a video as well as a written bid - must be submitted by March 30, 2012
