MP Reynolds in tv debate about plans to change constituency boundaries

Jonathan ReynoldsSTALYBRIDGE and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds has taken part in a tv debate, focussing on the government's plans to redraw parliamentary boundaries.

Under the Conservative government's proposals the number of parliamentary constituencies across the country would be reduced to 600.

And that means the number of seats in the North West is likely to reduce by seven, from 75 to 68.

Although MP Jonathan Reynolds agrees with the principle of equally sized seats, he says there are significant problems with the current proposals.

He says the figure of 600 seats has been chosen arbitrarily. And he says the impact of local ties, communities and geographical elements such as mountains and trees will not be given necessary consideration.

Mr Reynolds debated the proposals on ITV's Party People - which is presented by Rob McLoughlin - alongside Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans.
