Behind the scenes at MediaCityUK

Visit to MediaCityUKSTALYBRIDGE and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds went behind the scenes at MediaCityUK, to see the facilities that will keep the region at the heart of the media industry.

MediaCityUK is a £650milllion development that has acted as a magnet for the region's top tv and film-making companies.

Among the leading organisations already planning to move in are the BBC, ITV Granada and Satellite Information Services.

And they will be joined on the site by dozens of smaller tv, film and media-related companies - as well as a presence by the University of Salford, which already runs a number of media-related courses.

On Friday Mr Reynolds was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the shared Studio facilities and the new BBC base, which is already partly occupied.

He heard about the many opportunities there would be for schoolchildren and visitors to tour the facilities and to take part in the many programmes that will be made there.

During a tour of the BBC's base, he also spoke to young people who had been enrolled on the company's apprenticeship schemes.

Mr Reynolds said: "MediaCityUK will keep Greater Manchester at the heart of the media industry for many years to come.

"For journalism, tv production and film-making it will make the region a real force to be reckoned with on the national stage. And it will bring with it opportunities to nurture and develop the next generation of talent.

"It was a real privilege to see some of the talented individuals at the BBC, who are already producing quality radio and tv programmes from MeduiaCityUK. And I was pleased to meet with some of the apprentices, who have been given an important first step into the competitive world of media.

"Sometimes we think that areas like Salford Quays are a long way from Tameside - but during my short time at MediaCityUK I ran into a number of people who have found employment there who live in our area.

"MediaCityUk isn't just good for Salford or Manchester - it provides valuable opportunities for people from Tameside too."

Mr Reynolds hope that in the future as many people as possible will take advantage of the opportunities to tour the facilities at MediaCityUK, to become part of tv audiences or to take part in other events.
