STALYBRIDGE and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds celebrated the festive season with members of a club that's going from strength to strength.
The Freedom Club was started last year by Glenda Haffy, who was determined that there should be more options available for people with physical disabilities.
When it began there were 14 members, who met once a week at the Hattersley Community Centre.
Now - just 17 months later - the club is so popular it meets twice a week. And it has 32 members, aged between 18 and 91 - with a waiting list of more people who would like to join.
Activities on offer to members include darts and pool, quizzes, crafts and bingo, as well as the chance to learn art and special exercise classes for wheelchair users.
And Glenda says they are always determined to broaden the events and activities at the Club to meet the requests and demands of their members.
Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds dropped in to the community centre to hear more about the activities on offer, when he was invited to join members for their Christmas Party.
"I was delighted to be invited by members of the Freedom Club to join in their Christmas Party," said Mr Reynolds.
"The club has only been up and running for 17 months, but it is already clear that this event is one of the highlights of their calendar.
"The Freedom Club offers members access to a wide range of activities, which are clearly valued and enjoyed by members.
"It is obviously going from strength to strength and I wish the Club and its members all the best for the coming year."
