THE streets of Hyde and Stalybridge are now ablaze with light and colour, as the countdown to Christmas begins.
Crowds turned out in force to see the festive lights switched on in Hyde on Friday evening. And they were treated to a showcase of entertainment - including a special appearance by Father Christmas.
Just 24 hours later there were similar celebrations on the streets of Stalybridge when hundreds of families turned out to begin their own countdown to Christmas.
And later this week the festivities will continue in the constituency, when the lights will be switched on in Mossley. Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds was among those lining the streets of Stalybridge on Saturday for the event.
He said: "The switch-on of the Christmas lights remains one of the highlights of the calendar for families across Tameside. And I am delighted that so many people - adults and children - turned out for the celebrations.
"Winter days can be short, cold and dark - but the festive lights really brighten the streets and have a really positive impact.
"The lights in Hyde and Stalybridge look great - and I hope they will help to spread festive cheer and attract shoppers and visitors to our town centres in the coming weeks."
The Christmas lights switch-on at Mossley will be held outside the George Lawton Hall, at 6.30pm, on November 25.
