STALYBRIDGE is counting down to the Christmas season with its first-ever festive market.
The Christmas Market - on December 8 and 9 – will bring together more than 40 stalls in the heart of the town centre.
It will showcase a range of inspirational hand crafted gifts from across the North West, designed to inspire those shoppers still looking for a unique present, as well a range of festive decorations.
There will be a number of independent food retailers offering something special, to take home to the table or enjoy in the heart of Stalybridge. And adding to the festive fun will be the Stalybridge Old Band, Hope Gospel Choir, children’s rides and face painting – as well as special appearances by Father Christmas.
The event has been organised and promoted by Stalybridge Town Team, which brings together traders, community leaders and elected representatives.
Building on the growing success of the monthly Sunday Farmers’ Markets, this is just one of the Town Team initiatives designed to regenerate Stalybridge town centre and encourage more use of the Market Hall.
Event manager Carrie Pickering, from the Town Team, said: “Christmas is a time for people to come together – and we hope that this festive market will bring the Stalybridge community closer.
“As well as showcasing some unusual gifts and products, we hope the event will be enjoyable for visitors and bring some festive fun to the town centre.
“The Town Team is working hard to regenerate our town. And the Christmas Market is just the latest in a calendar of events in the pipeline for the Market Hall and town centre.”
Since its formation earlier this year, the Stalybridge Town Team has worked hard to ensure action is taken against derelict buildings, encouraged the return of an independent butcher to the town centre through the innovative use of a pop-up shop and co-ordinated a number of ‘I Love Stalybridge’ clean-up days, including the removal of trolleys from the canal.
Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds, who is a member of the Town Team, said: “The Town Team is made up of dedicated and committed members of the Stalybridge community, who are determined to ensure the town fulfils its potential.
“The Christmas Market is just one of the ways in which the Town Team is already making a real difference – and I know it will be enjoyed by hundreds of shoppers next month.
“I will be among those attending the event – no doubt hoping to find some Christmas presents while I’m there.”
The Christmas Market will be held on December 8 and 9, It will be based in and around the Market Hall and Armentieres Square.
