STALYBRIDGE and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds is backing a campaign to protect frontline NHS services in the north west.
Figures published just a few days ago show that waiting times for hospital treatment have now reached their highest level for three years.
The Royal College of Nursing has warned that 10,000 health jobs will be cut. And David Cameron has already broken his pledge not to fund the reorganisation of the NHS from the NHS budget.
On Saturday Labour Party campaigners from across the region collected hundreds of signatures from residents and shoppers who want the NHS frontline services to be protected.
And they hope their petition will send out a strong message to the Government, that people across the north west really care about the future of the NHS.
Speaking in support of the campaign, Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds said: "The Government is pushing through a series of confused NHS reforms that risk adding layers of bureaucracy that could be both costly and wasteful.
"At the same time waiting times for hospital treatment have risen to their highest level for three years. And the Royal College of Nursing has warned that as many as 10,000 health jobs will be cut.
"People are concerned about the future of the NHS - and I share their concerns. The Government's plans are dangerous.
"This petition calls for David Cameron to keep the promises he made before the General Election - to protect frontline NHS services and provide the real increase in NHS funding that was promised.
"It also calls on Mr Cameron to stop wasting NHS funds on a top-down reorganisation which is putting the NHS at risk.
"Hundreds of people across Tameside have already backed this petition. And I hope it will send a strong message to the Government about the importance of the NHS."
