I was extremely saddened to hear of the death this month of my parliamentary colleague and friend, Tony Lloyd MP. Tony was my MP when I first moved to Manchester as student in the late nineties. He served the diverse communities of first Manchester and then Rochdale devotedly. As you can see from these photos, during his time as Greater Manchester Police & Crime Commissioner and then Acting Mayor of GM, he visited every part of our constituency, being there for the people of Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley, Longdendale and Dukinfield, and taking action to make our communities safer. Above all her was an incredibly kind man, and a thoughtful friend to many. He will be much missed by everyone in the Labour Party. It was an honour to be in the chamber this week as moving tributes were given, including from Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak. I hope the outpouring of affection and gratitude is some small comfort to his friends and family during this saddest of times.
